NEW AGENCY AND OPERATING AGREEMENTS APPROVED BY CIVIC SAN DIEGO BOARD
City Council to Consider Proposed Agreements on Oct. 18 that Ensure Continued Oversight for City-Owned Nonprofit Organization

SAN DIEGO – Oct. 12, 2016 – To maintain continued transparency and serve its mission to facilitate physical and economic development activity in San Diego’s downtown neighborhoods and underserved communities, today the Civic San Diego Board approved a new Agency Agreement and Operating Agreement and recommended San Diego City Council approval at its meeting scheduled for Oct. 18.

With the 2012 dissolution of Redevelopment by the State of California, Civic San Diego was established by the City Council as a reorganization of the former Centre City Development Corp. and Southeastern Economic Development Corp. Civic San Diego was created to assist the City in its capacity as the Successor Agency, continue providing specified services to the City, and maintain previously authorized planning and permitting functions in the downtown area that ensured a streamlined development process. The new Agreements improve City oversight and enhance transparency, while codifying the authority of Civic San Diego based on the work of the predecessor organizations.

“Civic San Diego prides itself on facilitating important development and economic improvements in our underserved communities,” said Jeff Gattas, Civic San Diego Chairman. “From the development of essential affordable housing, to the creation of jobs, business improvement and youth educational programs, and improved infrastructure including parks and open space, among other roles, we are proud of the role Civic San Diego has been able to play supporting the growth of our urban neighborhoods. We hope these new agreements provide our communities with assurance and understanding of our commitment, responsibilities and limitations, and our continued promise to work collaboratively to make our neighborhoods great.”
