Southcrest Park Gets Final Funds
Southcrest Trails Park completion closes book on SR252 battle

The final $600,000 in the $2 million budget for Southcrest Trails Park has been secured, closing the book on the story of state Route 252.

Civic San Diego, which oversees former redevelopment areas in various parts of the city, said money set aside by the California Strategic Growth Council means the 2.3-acre park east of Interstate 15 and north of I-5, can begin construction next year and be completed in 2016. The council oversees bond spending from the statewide Proposition 84 park measure approved by voters in 2006. CivicSD was one of 40 applicants for the final round of “urban greening” grants.

“Not only do these grants result in plans and projects that make our communities more vibrant, but collectively these investments get us closer to meeting air quality and water conservation goals that are especially significant during this drought,” said John Laird, the state natural resources secretary and member of the growth council.

The park will include new landscaping, an amphitheater, basketball ball court, skate park and gazebo.
